Training Workshops Detailed Information

Workshop 1 – You and Your Team
Discuss the value of their entrepreneurial potential. Assess entrepreneurial and leadership capabilities. Do team-building and networking exercises. Form teams – team strengths and weaknesses presentation.

Workshop 2 – Generating Ideas (Discovery Challenge Round 1)
Generate and screen business ideas (brainstorm, etc. and case exercises to “screen”). Screen team generated ideas. Reform teams and re-screen. Design and produce own business cards. Elevator pitch presentation.

Workshop 3 – Finding Out
Conduct market research in teams to formulate and execute a research plan covering both customers and competitors. Use survey software (eg. Pinpoint). Plan presentation.

Workshop 4 – Marketing Planning (Discovery Challenge Round 2)
Prepare a marketing plan by focusing on defining the market and considering: 1. Is there a real opportunity, 2. Is it winnable, 3. Is it worth winning, 4. If all three prior conditions are satisfied, what will it take to achieve a profitable outcome?

Workshop 5 – Operations Planning
Prepare an operational plan for a start-up. In teams to draft; specify required resources, layouts, policies and procedures. Plan presentation.

Workshop 6 – Financial Planning (Discovery Challenge Round 3)
Prepare financial projections for a start-up. Build sales budget, operations budget, cash flow and P&L. Use Excel spreadsheet on pc. Cash flow presentation.

Workshop 7 – Communicating the Idea
Write a business plan for a start-up. Use PC based pro-forma to draft business plan. Exec summary presentation.

Workshop 8 – Lions’ Den (Discovery Challenge Round 4)
Similar to the famed ‘Dragons Den’ program, participants must deliver a product pitch to 3 (or 4) local business associates. With a weighted effect on the overall score, the pressure to deliver is truly on for this final event.
